The Boston Braves were a CPU-controlled team. That means that they were not not owned by a human. The decisions that needed to be made concerning the team throughout the seasons were made by the OOSL Commissioner, the OOSL Executive Committee or the computer manager. CPU teams are available for human ownership during OOSL Expansion Years, when new human owners are brought into the League. In the interim they provide play balance by diluting the available talent and providing more variety and competition than would otherwise be available.
The Boston Braves were one of the original OOSL teams in 1994 -- entering the OOSL National League as the Boston Bees, and playing with that nickname for their first five years. With the disenfranchisement of the Milwaukee Braves at the end of 1998, the Boston ballclub took that nickname as their own for 1999 and the future. Their storied five year OOSL career record stands at 374-396 for a .486 Winning Percentage.
1998 saw Ferguson Jenkins assert himself as an Ace Starter -- winning 20 games with a 2.59 ERA. He was the only non-Giant pitcher in the League to win 20 -- and he did it while competing in the same division as the Giants; something to take special note of. He was instrumental in helping Boston attain the Wild Card slot in the 1998 OOSL NL Championship Series. Pitching and fielding, as well as speed on the basepaths and a solid workman lineup were hallmarks of this club in 1998.
Pitching has always been Boston's forte, in addition to Jenkins, such notables as Lefty Grove, Steve Carlton, Tom Seaver and Jim Palmer have taken the hill at the Bee Hive. On the other hand, Big Dan Brouthers has been the center of the Boston's offensive universe since coming over from Cincinnati in 1996. Brouthers holds Boston records for SLA, OBA, Doubles and Triples. Ernie "Schozz" Lombardi is the owner of the team homerun mark with only 19, while Joe "Ducky" Medwick holds the mark for RBI with 90, the modest totals influenced by the home park's dimensions.
